Iron ladies' coming!

I. Who are they?

CHEN Ying(Ruby) HOU Wenxin(Joy) WANG Kailin(Alice)

CHEN Ying (Ruby): I grow up in Hangzhou, a beautiful city in southeast China. I lived in Japan for past four years for undergraduate study. Since it is an international university, I learnt how to communicate with people from different cultures there. As a global person I am ready to open mind to everyone. So I like to make friends and exchange ideas with others. Besides, I like traveling because I believe that travel broadens the mind.

                                                                                                                                                                                                       

HOU Wenxin (Joy): I am from Guangxi Province and stayed in 

the spicy city, Chongqing for 5 years. I am a hot person with ambition, courage and wisdom, yet without a hot body! I like to play badminton, read books and watch movies (I am addicted to "The Devil Wears Prada, Ramona and Beezus and The Iron Lady" ). I am sure that I can be a great woman both in work and life!  

WANG Kailin (Alice): I am from Shaoxing City,Zhejiang Province, an amazing, ancient city. I like K-Pop, refer to Korean Pop music. Though I do not have any working experience yet, it is a good opportunity for me to facilitate myself well by getting master degree in CityU. It is quite interesting way for me to share knowledge and information with classmates by using blogger since it is 
                                          the one part of collaboration. 

II.  Why this name & logo?

       

      

We got inspiration from the movie "Iron Lady". Recently, there is a popular word describing one kind of girls, that is 女汉子 (The Iron Ladies). The meaning of the word is that the girls are smart, ambitious and independent. We think this word fits us best, since we are excellent individually by self-disclosure. People like persons who have similar personality and value. During the whole semester, it is fortunately for us to study in one team. We believe, we three iron ladies will contribute extraordinary performance and make miracles in this semester!

     

III. Iron ladies have extraordinary goals 

We pursue A+ in this course. By the way, we aim to be A+ iron ladies in the future, either in the field of work, or in the field of leisure time!

For us, collaboration is a kind of art and science. In classes, by frequently interaction with Dr. Frank, we can get skills and tips in cooperating with diverse people.

"There is nothing so practical as a good theory--Kurt Lewin".  In our daily life, we will implement the knowledge in our work and life. Through our effective and efficient collaboration, we are sure that we can get excellent outcomes in this course. With the goals of being elegant, smart and brave, we can achieve great benefit for our companies, families and ourselves. 

IV. What attracts iron ladies most?

We three have found that the topics of week 3 is most attractive. 

Trust is important!

Trust is important in team work. For most Chinese, collaboration is not only about the task itself, but also about relationship. For us, we may return China after this semester, so it is crucial for us to get relative skills and methods that how to get trust among people interaction.

How to deal with social loafing in collaboration? 

One Chinese saying goes, one boy is a boy, two boys half a boy, three boys no boy shown as the video clip. Social loafing inhibits high performance collaboration. In our former study, we got to know this term without knowing how to deal with that. Therefore, we want to know about resolution. 

VI. What confuses iron ladies   

        

We have heard the rumor that "A team collaborates best when all members are elites". This sentence means that persons who are excellent in the same field or different fields can get better outcomes when they gather together. People even believe that top companies can succeed since they have teams in which all members are elites.

However, to some degrees, we put the question mark for this definition here. In terms with Dr. Eduardo Salas, specific tools, such as communication skills and working environment, are needed to allow team to perform at high level. Although people with professional capacity and knowledge, it makes no sense that they do not know how to collaborate with each other. In other word, 1+1＜2. Space Shuttle Columbia disaster is one famous tragedy led by elites team. We have to admit that members in NASA are elites in astronautics. However, when these elites work together,they do not achieve expected outcomes, since lacking of communication. It is important for organisation to create the conditions and training programs for elites to have some basic technique to collaborate with their team members.
